The 2015 Tim Hortons Brier is underway and there’s a younger generation of fans and players helping grow the game.
Organizers credit the Olympics for attracting young fans and they say it’s great that so many newcomers are getting involved in one of Canada’s favourite past times.
Al Cameron with Curling Canada says they have made it their mission to modernize the sport and their efforts are paying off.
“We’re really happy with the direction certainly in the first couple days of the Tim Horton’s Brier. This is a very young crowd certainly the Brier Patch was packed I hear, I mean, of course, I wasn’t there I was working. Yeah, the younger, the better and that’s what we’re looking for with the rest of the event,” he said.
It’s not just the fans getting younger, the players are too.
This year the Ontario and PEI teams average just 24 years old.
