There are over a thousand active bottle pickers in Calgary and many people don’t know how valuable they are to the community.
An event Sunday aimed to educate people on how essential bottle pickers are.
Kate Letizia the Founder of Calgary Can tells 660News it’s time for us to work together.
“It’s funny because Calgarian’s throw away millions of dollars of refundable containers into the garbage every year, and I don’t think they understand those valuable resources are still going in the trash and this community, these bottle pickers are helping recover those resources and pull them out because we did the wrong thing in the first place, and then they just happen to be able to go make money off them as well.”
Letizia says they have been working with the bottle picking community for a few years to find ways to make bottle picking safer and more comfortable.
