Winter returns to southern Alberta

Winter will be making a brief pit stop in southern Alberta Sunday afternoon but it won’t be here for long.

A snowfall warning has been issued for the Crowsnest Pass with 10 to 20 cm predicted to land in the area. Isolated areas may see 30 cm.

Dave Carlsen with Environment Canada said a cold front is meeting moist air from BC over the mountains.

“It’s going to bring in some cooler air than we’ve seen in the southwest corner of the province over the last couple of days,” Carlsen said. “Then you super-impose some moisture coming in off the Pacific over top of that, and that’s a pretty good recipe for creating some pretty heavy snowfall,” says Carlsen.

The snow is expected to stay mostly in that southwest corner of the province and Calgary can expect just a few flurries.
