Premier “blaming Albertans” hot topic at CUPE provincial meeting

Recent remarks by Premier Jim Prentice will be top of mind as Alberta’s public workers gather in Calgary for their annual convention.

Marle Roberts, CUPE provincial president, said one major topic will be how to battle Jim Prentice’s apparent attacks on public services.

“We’re hearing things through the media, so you know we’re concerned about what’s being said, what’s happening, blaming Albertans is a concern,” Roberts said.

Prentice made comments recently that he’d be looking to cut salaries in the public sector, claiming they are the highest paid in Canada.

Merle said the three-day conference being held at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel will also cover topics like pensions, poverty, and the importance of community safety.
