Get ready to say goodbye to winter as spring officially arrives Friday afternoon.
While the winter was a fairly tame one, 660News meteorologist David Spence says we actually had more snow than normal.
“Indeed it was warm, with the average high coming in at 3.7C, well above the long-term average of 0.9C,” Spence said. “The warmest day of the winter was March 13th at 18C. The coldest: January 4th at -25C.”
Spence added that we may have had more snow than you thought.
Since December 1, 2014, we’ve had 64.3 centimetres, which is above the long-term average to March 20th of 59.9 centimetres.
We may have had high than average snow fall this past winter but it didn’t keep city officials busy dealing with complaints about slippery sidewalks.
The City of Calgary reports only 293 complaints have been called in to 3-1-1 since January 1st, 2015.
In the same time span last year, more than 11,000 complaints were filed.
For the entire snowfall season of 2014, nearly 15,000 calls were made, and 12,000 were filed in 2013.
