It’s a great start, but there’s room for improvement.
That was the sentiment after Monday night’s forum on the success of Calgary Council Tracker.
The website has been up for 10 months, allowing Calgarians to keep tabs on their city councillors, including how they vote.
Ward Sutherland, councillor for Ward 1, tells City News the vote tally is a bit misleading.
“Depending on what the subject is, there needs to be more detail explaining certain parts of votes and graphs, and benchmarking against other cities,” Sutherland said.
The website also shows attendance records and how much time council is spending in closed door sessions.
Manning Foundation researcher, and website creator, Jeromy Farkus said he would like to see the site rolled out across the country.
He said he hopes the long term effects of being able to track city councillors will be a higher voter turnout.
