City of Calgary lawyers are reviewing the Supreme Court of Canada ruling against prayer in city council meetings.
The top court made its decision after an atheist complained about prayers being said in Saguenay, Quebec.
Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, a practising Muslim, tells City News, he thinks prayer is a good thing.
“I think it’s important to allow for different expressions of faith in the public square, having a multi-cultural and pluralistic society doesn’t mean you get rid of faith, it means you make space for faith,” he said.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi likes the fact they start their council meeting with prayer, but there are a number of other cities in the country that are now suspending or stopping traditional council prayers altogether.
