Consumer prices fell in Alberta and Calgary last month — while they rose in the rest of the country.
New numbers from Statistics Canada show prices fell 0.1 per cent in March, compared to last year, due to volatile natural gas prices.
It’s a bit of a change, from February, when prices in the Calgary region rose 1.1 per cent.
However, Todd Hirsch, Economist with ATB Financial tells 660News, while inflation numbers tend to go up and down a lot, the overall trend is price increases are very low.
“Especially since a lot of families today in Alberta, they may be experiencing some drop in income, maybe some unemployment, so, the fact that inflation numbers are weak, that consumer prices are rising at a very low rate, is probably not a bad thing for Albertans at the moment,” he said.
According to Statistics Canada, Albertans paid 12.4 per cent less for electricity in March.
