Give Mom a home-cooked treat

Nothing says I love you like breakfast in bed.

This Mother’s Day, treat that special lady to a home-cooked feast, and get the kids involved.

The food editor at Chatelaine has some simple, quick, and delicious recipes.

For the novice baker, try strawberry scones.

“It’s a really great way to start the day,” says Claire Tansey. “A tender and lovely scone, and you can either do it with strawberries or any fresh fruit you enjoy. Something fun to get your hand dirty.”

Tansey says for moms with a sweet tooth, you can also try their crumpet french toast.

If you really want to wow her with something different, how about breakfast ramen? Cook up a pack of instant noodles, add some bacon, spinach and a fried egg on top. “You can also have it for dinner, but it’s a great breakfast, and talk about different,” says Tansey.

Or, if the stove is too daunting, break out the slow cooker the night before and have a cheesy mushroom strata all ready to go when Mom wakes up Sunday morning.
