With two major events planned for Sunday morning, you’re going to need patience and luck if you’re planning on heading to, or through, Calgary’s core.
Big crowds are expected for the Calgary Marathon and the Lilac Festival.
More than 12,500 people are registered for the 51st edition of the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon, which kicks off at 6:30 a.m., and will mean a lot of foot traffic all over downtown, as well as crossing the river along Memorial Drive.
Then, from 10:00a.m. until 6:00 p.m. a long stretch of 4th Street, S.W. is going to blocked off for the Lilac Festival.
Thousands of people will be checking out local vendors and performers will converge on the street between 13th Avenue and Elbow Drive S.W., so that means 17th Avenue, S.W. won’t be a through street.
Calgary Police will be on hand directing traffic away from the 4th Street intersection.
