June Dresses flowing for United Way

Leave the pants and shorts at home, and don’t be afraid to rock a summer dress, for a great cause.

Adrienne Donnelly is the founder of the #JuneDresses campaign and says the idea came about a few years ago.

“I started June Dresses, actually in a May, when I got snowed on and wore a dress everyday, regardless,” Donnelly said.

The next year, she moved the dress-wearing to June, “where it was less likely to snow,” when some friends followed her lead, “and that good feeling that it gave us, sort of inspired us to do more with it.”

That’s how the United Way link was made. Impressed by the efforts of the organization, and specifically the help it provides to women, the #JuneDresses campaign became a fundraiser.

It’s easy to take part. Wear a dress; snap a picture; post it on social media with the #junedresses.

Donnolley says the campaign has raised more than $75,000 for United Way Calgary over the past two years.
