Calgary Police are now just a click away on your smart phone.
The local law enforcement have launched their new mobile, online app.
Some of the features include access to report crimes online, a link to submit a tip through Crime Stoppers, ability to share a compliment or file a complaint, links to a variety of resources, including crime prevention, youth programs, domestic violence, victim resources and recruitment information.
It also boasts station and crime maps and access to the Calgary Police Service social media feeds.
Superintendent Guy Slater told reporters they wanted to do something to keep up with the advancements in technology.
He says this tool isn’t meant to replace such tools as 9-1-1.
“They (officers) are responsive as they always have been, this app just allows you to connect through a different way, through a number of check points,” he said.
It comes as little to no cost to the force because much of the work was done in-house.
They’re going to monitor it through the first phase of the rollout which should last 4 months to see how the public responds, after that they’ll decide on if they should make any changes.
“Our chap who monitors Twitter, he will see those and he’s already provided me some of those comments already, the Facebook comments have already been provided and we see those in real time,” he said.
The app is available for download on iTunes, the Google Play Store and Blackberry World.
