HomeFront, Checker Cabs team up to battle domestic violence

Checker Yellow Cabs are sporting some bold new decals.

It is part of what is being called a ‘ground-breaking campaign’ to end domestic violence.

Maggie MacKillop, a spokesperson with non-profit organization HomeFront, told 660News the taxi company has been a supporter of them for a while and agreed to use the sides of their vehicles to display the large black and white emblem.

“We’ve used the American sign language for ‘I love you’ because it’s a universally recognized message and so what we’re trying to do is say to those people living with domestic violence, there is a community out there that can surround you can support you,” MacKillop said.

“We at some point had this idea around using the cabs as sort of moving billboards to get the message out there to help end domestic violence.”

While local charities wade through Alberta’s economic downturn, MacKillop said HomeFront used the challenge as an opportunity to create awareness.
