City to paint rainbow crosswalk in time for Pride Parade

Calgary will be getting a rainbow crosswalk.

A motion by Ward 4 Councillor Sean Chu to paint the multi-coloured tribute between Olympic Plaza and City Hall in time for the Pride Parade in September was approved late Monday.

It will also include the installation of pride flags on 9 Avenue.

However, there were concerns over who will pay for it: Chu is hoping a corporation, or other sponsor steps up, so the City won’t have to foot the bill.

Pride Calgary has offered to pick up the tab.
