There’s no shortage of shows to get Calgarians in the mood for Halloween Friday night in the city.
A special spooky presentation of the 1923 classic film, the Hunchback of Notre Dame will be screened at the Knox United Church.
The silent film will include live organ accompaniment by William O’Meara, who will play and improvise non-stop.
O’Meara says he has been studying the craft, to provide an “authentic experience” for today’s audience.
Hunchback tells the tale of misshapen Quasimodo, a bell ringer at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Tickets are $15 for adults or $10 for students and seniors.
The event starts at 9 p.m. at the church on 4 Street S.W., but beware — the Calgary Society of Organists says it isn’t suitable for kids under the age of 13.
There will be a chill in the air at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, as the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra puts on “Voices of the Damned.”
The show features cabaret sensation Ute Lemper, Interpreter Kurt Weill, and the vocal ensemble, Hudson Shad.
The first half of the evening will be a performance of Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins, followed by Philip Glass’ The Fall of the House of Usher.
Faculty and students from ACAD have provided some spine-tingling visuals to accompany the music.
The performance starts at 8 p.m., and you can buy tickets here.
If you’re looking to make your Devil’s Night more rowdy, you can catch a live performance of a Halloween cult classic.
The Alberta Playwrights Network is putting on Rocky Horror Picture Show at Evergreen Studios in Calgary’s northeast.
Doors open to take in the Time Warp at 7 p.m., with the show beginning at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $35, and can be purchased here.
