Man killed in crash west of Calgary

One man has been killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 22 just south of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Cochrane RCMP responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and say the man was pronounced dead on scene.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 22 from Highway 1 to Springbank Road were closed as emergency crews investigated.

After an investigation by RCMP, it appears that the southbound car pulled over to the shoulder, made an illegal U-turn and was struck by another southbound vehicle.

The 68-year-old driver of the vehicle from Tennessee was pronounced dead on scene. His 69-year-old male passenger suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The 28-year-old driver of the southbound pick-up truck that struck the car was not injured.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors, and no charges are anticipated.
