Cool it, Calgary!
That’s the message behind a new campaign against domestic violence by the group HomeFront.
There have been at least four domestic violence related murders in the city this year, and Calgary Police have reported a jump in calls to conflict at homes in recent months.
Even more troubling, the number of domestic assault cases involving weapons is on the rise.
HomeFront has released a new ‘heat map’ that shows this is not an isolated problem, and that it affects every quadrant of Calgary.
They’re asking the city to step up and show their support to help cool down the prevalent crime facing our communities.
Executive Director Maggie MacKillop says it’s well known domestic violence can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, religion or socio-economic status, and this new map clearly illustrates that fact.
She adds the victims are your neighbours, co-workers, friend and family.
