Calgary expected to accept 1,100 Syrian refugees

A Calgary refugee assistance group has been given the number of Syrian refugees expected to arrive in the city.
Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government is striving to resettle 25,000 people from the war torn country to Canada by the end of the year.
According to Anoush Newman with the Syrian Refugee Project, 1,100 will make their way to Calgary.
The number came from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Ottawa.
The organization is hosting a public forum at the John Dutton Theatre Thursday for people interested in learning how assistance will be offered to the refugees.
It runs from 9 a.m. till noon and is open to the public.
