Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Calgary.
Detective Graham Smiley says it started around 6 a.m.
“Police were called to the 100 block of Falton Way NE, for reports of a disturbance,” he said.
Smiley says a traffic stop was conducted that resulted in the officer discharging his service pistol.
Investigators are at a scene about three or four blocks from where police say the traffic stop took place.
They surrounded a car at the end of Fallingworth Court and looked to be searching it.
Calgary Police provided an update Thursday afternoon in relation to the shooting.
Police are still looking for two suspects in connection to the case.
The first suspect is an East Indian male, possibly in his late 20s, 5’8″ and was wearing baggy jeans and a blue and brown jacket.
The second suspect is also East Indian, early 30s, 5’8″ with a slim build believed to be wearing all black.
Duty Inspector Chris Butler told media that the men are still on the loose.
“It is unknown if either of the men was struck. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance should they come across any evidence indicating an injury,” Butler said.
About a half hour after the incident Thursday morning, and roughly three blocks from the scene, CPS was called by someone else who reported their white Ford Escape stolen.
This theft occurred in the 0-100 block of Falchurch Cres. NE.
The vehicle had Alberta plate BNH9728 with Johnson Controls written on the side.
It’s not known if the two suspects are related to this theft.
The member who fired his weapon has five years experience.
A neighbour, Brenda, told 660 NEWS that the gun shots didn’t wake her.
“I’ve lived here for ten years. There’s always been cops going down there. There’s always been something happening. I don’t know what, but there’s always been cops going down that street,” she said.
“It’s pretty scary because you don’t normally see that on the street, but there has been past history of cops blocking off the road.”
Another neighbour, Herman, was awoken by the commotion.
“I thought maybe someone shot. But anyhow, the noise of the police siren (woke me). I thought maybe there was some shooting over here. Like, it’s scary, I’ve only heard it once. Not after that. It was scary, yeah,” he said.
No one was injured in the incident.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team continues to investigate.
