A Calgary man convicted of manslaughter in the stabbing death of his new neighbour attended a sentencing hearing Wednesday.
Nicholas Rasberry was originally charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Calgary teacher Craig Kelloway in May of 2013.
He admitted to stabbing Kelloway but argued it was in self defense, claiming the victim had threatened to sexually assault both him and his wife sleeping upstairs.
In October, the judge convicted Rasberry of the lesser charge, and the crown is appealing that verdict.
During sentencing Wednesday, Rasberry was looking at his feet, appearing to be very emotional as victim impact statements were read.
The crown is seeking a 15 year prison sentence for Rasberry, and a firearm ban for ten years.
Rasberry could see anything from no jail time to a life sentence for his manslaughter conviction.
