CopShop a huge success in tenth year

A heavy police presence at Marlborough Mall Wednesday morning was no cause for concern.

More than 30 men and women in blue were there to act as personal shoppers for local kids chosen because they’ve made a difference in their communities.

Today marked the tenth annual CopShop event.

Samuel is in grade nine at Sir Wilfred Laurier, and though he’s not sure exactly why he was chosen for this $200 shopping spree, he suspects it’s because he’s a nice guy.

His spending plans were definitely in line with that.

“I’m definitely shopping for some others, like my sisters and my dad. I want to get them some presents because in other years, I really couldn’t get them anything, but they got me stuff,” Samuel told 660 NEWS.

Cst. Henry Robinson is Samuel’s helper and he’s a veteran who keeps coming back.

“Every year I come, they get this money for themselves and most times they are spending it on other people, so I think that’s probably part of the reason why these guys are chosen,” Robinson said.

“I guess, for us, lots of times, we deal with people that aren’t always that happy to see us. In this case, we have a great time with these guys and we’re here for a good event and it’s a positive outcome.”

The event aims to foster positive relationships between the CPS and Calgary youth.
