A large fire has destroyed a seniors home in High River.
Flames broke out at the Medicine Tree Manor around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Fire officials told 660 NEWS they had things under control at around 7 a.m., but the fire re-ignited and jumped to a second building.
The Facility was damaged in the 2013 flood, but it’s structure was still sound. The Foothills Foundation has been working since then to try to reopen it.
Al Brander with the foundation tells 660 NEWS it looks like they’re now back to square one. “So, we finally got that underway, and construction went along very well, but now we’re farther behind than we were after the flood”, he said. “It’s all got to come down from the looks of it, I would say.”
Brander said it’s devastating but is thankful no one was hurt. The Soderberg house, west of the structure, has about 20 residents and was evacuated as a precaution.
Firefighters worked hard and managed to keep the blaze from spreading to that building.
