Surprise snowfall covers Calgary

A surprise snowfall overnight has left Calgary in a pretty state, but it certainly slowed down everyone’s start to the day, Wednesday.
Even though flurries were in the forecast, no one saw this coming.
Environment Canada meteorologist Brad Power says around 11 to 12 centimetres of snow fell from Cochrane to southeast Calgary.
“The airport itself has only reported about seven centimetres however we feel like the areas of heaviest snow is a little bit further to the northwest of there, so kind of up in the Airdrie, Water Valley area,” he said.
The reason we got so much snow was because the system that brought it got caught up on the mountains and stalled unexpectedly over the city.
The snow didn’t stop until about 3 a.m. and according to the city, crews hit the roads around midnight but as of 7 a.m., the City of Calgary website showed none of the priority one or two roads had been completely cleared.
Police reported 32 crashes between midnight and 3 a.m., no one was seriously injured but the number of problems steadily increased throughout the morning commute.
All snowfall warnings for Alberta ended shortly before 10:30 a.m.
