Warning on ‘cloud’ safety

A lawyer is advising people to questions about how personal information in stored.
A recent article in Forbes raised concerns about financial advisors, lawyers, or accountants putting personal information on the cloud, but not knowing what they are doing.
Ira Nishisato, a partner with Borden Ladner and Gervais, tells 600 NEWS, never assume your personal information is secure.
“When they go to see professionals or other organizations that have their personal information, they need to ask questions about where that information is stored, what steps are taken to ensure that it’s secure, and whether there have ever been breaches of personal information or other confidential information held by those professionals or organizations,” says Nishisato.
Nishisato adds businesses should take steps to protect client information, because they could be held liable for a data breach.
