City starts annual Christmas tree recycling program

For some, now that Christmas dinner has been eaten and the gifts have been opened, it’s time to take down the Christmas tree.
The city is encouraging people to recycle those trees.
Spokesperson Phillippa Wagner says there are two ways to do that.
“One way is through our depot system so there’s eight depot locations across the city, where residents can take their trees starting on Boxing Day, December 26th, all the way through (until) the end of January. If you have curbside garbage collection, starting on January 8th, which is a Friday, you can have your tree picked up at the curb.”
The recycled trees are turned into mulch.
The city estimates last year, the program managed to keep 35 thousand Christmas trees from going into the landfill.
