How to do resolutions right

Love them or hate, many of us set them.

With the New Year right around the corner, a new poll shows at least 50 per cent of Canadians will set a New Year’s resolution before the end of the first week of January.

But, how can you do it successfully?

Well.ca Spokesperson Erin Young says it’s all about keeping it simple.

“One is the baby steps approach. So, instead of saying, I’m going to run a marathon, saying something like, ‘I’m going to run a 2 kilometre race.’ So, really breaking the resolution down into small, achievable goals,” she said.

Young also recommends having an accountability partner that knows your goals and can help keep you on track.

She also says you should think long and hard about what you want to achieve before setting your goals.

“People are saying that they are making their resolutions because they are reflecting on the past year’s successes and failures, so I think it is a time to make a meaningful change, and if you’re going to make a resolution make the right one,” Young explained.
