RCMP in Red Deer have charged a 33-year-old man in a Christmas Day murder.
Early on Dec. 25, the body of Thomas Patrick Braconnier was found in a business vestibule in downtown Red Deer and police say the suspect now charged was quickly detained for questioning.
In a strange twist, they were able to keep the accused in custody because they allege he tried to disarm a police officer while detained and was booked on that charge. He was then re-arrested Tuesday on one count of second-degree murder and a second charge of committing and indignity to a human body.
Investigators say the accused and victim were acquainted with each other from residing in the same general neighbourhood, but they aren’t elaborating on a motive.
Chad Alexander Kulba will appear in Red Deer court next Monday.
