Calgarians weigh in on the attention from “forgotten son” Ted Cruz

Ask any Calgarian about Republican Presidential nominee Ted Cruz on a cold, blustery day in the business sector, you get a lot of the same answer.
“Considering I think he’s a fool, pretty much anything he says I don’t find relevant to the image of Calgary,” said Jen. “Ted really didn’t live here very long and he was a child when he did, it doesn’t matter.”
Others were more split on the topic. This woman admittedly doesn’t follow American politics and had no idea Cruz’ birthplace was that much of a factor.
“I think it would be great, but I don’t think the U.S. is ready for our perspectives anyways, they’re so completely different from us,” she said. “It’s unfortunate; he has a lot of bad views, to be honest. It’s really controversial, but I also think that it’s nice that he speaks his mind. He’s probably the only other presidential candidate to do that, so that’s probably a good thing, but I don’t like that Calgary is in the spotlight because of him.”
“It’s a shame that Obama couldn’t be President longer,” she said.
Dwayne said it’s not a big deal whether Cruz is elected or not.
“It’s good to get on the map, I’m glad we’re getting noticed. I wouldn’t mind Obama being President again. What can you do though, as long as you get another good president, right?”
“Doesn’t matter to me at all,” said Dave. “I don’t think it matters, people in the States still don’t know where Calgary is, I think he (Cruz) is too extreme, bad for Canada and bad for Calgary. I don’t like any of them.”
Angie was watching news Friday morning, watching Calgary get some of the spotlight because of its “forgotten son.”
“I think it’s fantastic, hopefully we’ll get more people to come here and spend their money,” she said.
She’s hoping Donald Trump will get elected, following Obama.
I could only find one man who thought it would be a good idea to elect Ted Cruz, a born Calgarian, into the White House.
“I think it’s really cool that we’re kind of in that epic situation; it’s quite a large situation in the U.S. and I’m glad we’re kind involved in the presidential race. Maybe we can influence them to support oil companies and the economy in Calgary.
“It’ll be great for Calgary!”
Cruz is running neck and neck with Donald Trump in the polls, to become the next Republican nominee.
