You can raise a puppy with little to no cost obligation, for a good cause.
BC & Alberta Guide Dogs are looking to add to their volunteer base by at least 10 homes in the next few months, for their puppy raising program.
“And that program involves taking in the puppy when they are approximately 2 months old. You have the dogs for about a year and a half, sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less” says Sandra Cramer, Calgary’s puppy raising supervisor. “And the dog lives with you in the home, and you’re providing care and training for them kind of 24/7, going through all of those puppy stages.”
“The volunteers that we’re looking for would primarily be people who either don’t work, or have a very flexible schedule that they work from home. One of the key things for our training program, is that the dogs need to be exposed to many different circumstances. So you take these puppies with you everywhere you go” says Cramer.
The organization provides the cost for food, vet bills and obedience classes – which the volunteer is required to attend with the puppy.
