City launches online pet licensing program

No more snail mail reminders to renew your pets’ license, thanks to the City of Calgary’s new online licensing portal for pets.

The service launched Tuesday, and Ryan Jestin with Calgary Community Services says people can register new pets, renew a current license and pay on the web.

“You can decide if you want to have emails on a regular basis that remind you to make sure that you have your licensed animal. Why is this important? It’s important because last year alone, over 800 animals were driven directly home as a result of being licensed,” said Jestin.

The city says it will save thousands of dollars a month used to send out renewal service letters.

97,000 dogs and 34,000 cats are licensed cats are licensed in Calgary.
