A new hotline is now available for those who feel they are victims of Islamaphobia hate crimes.
Faisal Khan Suri with the Alberta Muslim Public Affairs Council says they launched the service about two weeks ago to help victims voice their concerns, and to provide guidance on how to handle varying situations.
“We have heard from community members where they sometimes feel hesitant to call the proper authorities in place, either because of a language barrier or fear,” explained Sur, “so we said okay that’s great, that’s okay, we will help you, and we will help direct you to the people you need to talk to.”
He added operators are trained volunteers, put in place to help identify when someone may be facing a true hate crime.
The service can be reached by phone at 1-800-607-3312 or by email at report@ampac.ca.
