Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning opens at U of C to much fanfare

University of Calgary officials are promising it will change the field of education with a new facility where students can investigate new avenues of learning.

The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning opened on Monday, where technology is a focal point.

President Elizabeth Cannon told 660 NEWS, it’s a game-changer.

”We want to ensure that our faculty have the tools, use technology to have both curriculum and ways of teaching that’s going to reflect how students want to learn, and I think it’s going to demonstrate results,” said Cannon.

The facility was made possible by a $40-million donation by local philanthropist Don Taylor.

Advanced Education Minister Marlin Schmidt is hopeful people like the Taylors will continue to support post-secondary schools in this economic downturn.

”That’s when we need education the most. This is when people are losing their jobs and they’re going back to school to either re-train or enhance their skills so that when the economy picks up, they can re-enter the workforce, start a new job,” said Schmidt.
