Calgary Transit is feeling the impact of the oil slump.
Ridership has sunk about two to three per cent on buses and CTrains.
Transit Director Doug Morgan tells City News, they’ve slowed down hiring.
“The impact really is downtown — not as many people working, the buses aren’t quite as full, the trains aren’t quite as full, and you see on the roads too aren’t quite as busy,” he said.
Morgan says freezing fares this year has helped to keep some riders.
However, ridership is where half of transit’s funding comes from and they are looking at ways to scale back services without laying anyone off.
Some buses have already been taken off the road during peak hours.
