The Royal Canadian Circus is doing its part to help fire-ravaged Fort McMurray.
The circus was scheduled to perform in the city last weekend, before the disaster put a kink in their plans.
Spokesperson Cathy Sproule says that’s when the Town of Olds stepped up.
“The mayor of Olds opened up their doors and at Olds College; we put up the big top in the middle of nowhere, beside Olds College, and put on 10 shows. The people at Olds and district were amazing. We raised $15,000 for (the Red Cross’) Fort McMurray Relief Fund,” she said.
She says the performers were more than happy to dedicate their time and talents to the worthy cause, and they all came together to pull off shows that normally take months to plan.
The Royal Canadian Circus is in Calgary from May 20 through June 5 and all evacuees can get in for free with identification proving they live in the Fort McMurray area.
