EgyptAir says a Canadian is among the passengers on board an Airbus A320 that has reportedly crashed on a flight from Paris to Cairo.

According to Egyptian aviation officials, EgyptAir flight 804 with 66 passengers and crew on board has crashed.

The airline says the Airbus A320 disappeared from radar early Thursday morning at 2:45 a.m. local time when it was flying at 37,000 feet and 16 kilometres after it entered Egyptian airspace.

In addition to the unidentified Canadian, EgyptAir says Flight 804 also included 30 Egyptians, 15 French citizens and others from Britain, Belgium, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Chad, Portugal and Algeria.

The officials say the search is now underway for the debris.

They say the “possibility that the plane crashed has been confirmed,” as the plane hasn’t landed in any of the nearby airports.

No word yet on the cause of the crash.
