Wildrose MLA Derek Fildebrandt suspended following social media comment

Derek Fildebrandt has been suspended from the Wildrose Caucus.

However, the suspension is not due to his comments about Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne during Thursday’s question period at the Alberta. Instead, it’s because of a comment Fildebrandt made on social media.

In a release that came out late Friday evening, Wildrose Party leader Brian Jean said the Strathmore-Brooks MLA “made an unacceptable comment on social media that does not represent the values of the Wildrose Caucus.”

The comment in question was a reply to someone on Fildebrandt’s Facebook page, which referred to Wynne as “Mr. Wynne.”

Fildebrandt immediately took to Twitter to explain the situation.

He said he misread the original comment, and that his response to it was a mistake and completely against his views.

Fildebrandt also apologized to members of the LGBTQ community, who shared their thoughts on the situation on social media as well.
