Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids in great need

This local charity is making sure no child goes hungry at lunchtime.

Brown Bagging for Kids says in the last year and a half, they have seen a 50 per cent increase in the number of kids relying on their service for a healthy lunch.

Tanya Koshowski Executive Director of the charity says there are a couple of reasons why.

“We are going out to the schools to make sure that they are aware of us and if they have a need for lunches for kids we can provide that, but we’ve also seen an increase in need because of the economy, because of Syrian refugees and we’ve also in the last couple of weeks have had about 150 kids added to the programs from Fort Mac.” Koshowski said.

Tanya Koshowski says they need to raise enough money by June 15th to meet their target.

“We are in an action campaign and we’re doing it a little bit different this year and we really want to focus on just the act of giving so just whatever people are able to give our goal is 240 individual gifts of any size and once we reach the 240 gifts the Prosser Foundation will be donating $60,000.” Koshowski said.
