Rain keeps wildfire from growing

A bit of rain and higher humidity has helped firefighters a bit.

The wildfire burning near Fort McMurray hasn’t shrunk in size, but it hasn’t grown either.

It’s held steady over the past couple days at about 582,000 hectares.

The perimeter is estimated to be 984 kilometres and the fire is nearly 50-per cent contained.

More than 2,500 fire fighters and support staff are battling the blaze, along with 99 helicopters and more than 200 pieces of heavy equipment.
