New panel will help create new energy efficient programs in Alberta

A new advisory panel will consult with Albertans on new energy efficiency and small-scale electricity programs.
Environment Minister Shannon Phillips announced Thursday, information gathered will be passed on to the newly created Energy Efficiency Alberta.
“Programs will be for Albertans, our business, and our communities and will be designed to fit with our economy here in Alberta,” said Phillips.
She adds, more options to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reducing local air pollution will save Albertans money and create jobs.
Panel chair and chancellor of Cape Breton University Dr. David Wheeler says new programs will pave the way for a more energy efficient future.
“Nova Scotia and Alberta are on similar trajectories there which is the de-coupling of the economy from the dependence on fossil fuels and building an economy based on energy industries of the future. Obviously, renewable will be a big part of that,” said Wheeler.
Programs are scheduled to be available in early 2017.
