The Central Public Library announced an exciting new addition, a fire truck for the kids!
The News Adventures of Engine 23, a brand new learning centre in partnership with the Fire Department and the Calgary Public Library was unveiled Friday.
Library CEO Bill Ptacek tells 660 News why they chose the red fire engine.
“It demonstrates to the community that learning and literacy skills aren’t just about sitting there reading passively, it’s an active sport, if you will. Kids need to be engaged in activity and play, while learning these literacy skills, and we think the fire truck is a perfect way to demonstrate that.” Ptacek said.
Ptacek adds firemen will come in three days a week to read stories to the kids, he says they plan to put a fire truck in libraries all across the city.
