City police investigators say they’re taking the sighting of a drone near an airplane in the northeast seriously.
While it’s still unclear if the pilot saw a drone, Sgt. Colin Foster says it’s important unmanned aerial vehicle aficionados stay out of their airspace.
Foster says a two kilogram drone can cause a lot of damage to a plane or jet engine.
“If you’re within nine kilometres of the airport, or five nautical miles, you’re not supposed to fly at all,” he explained. “There are places where you can fly. I’d refer anyone to the maac.ca website [for info].”
In the meantime, they’ve concluded their investigation and the matter has been referred to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
