Goating after it: 100 goats mowing Calgary weeds

More than 100 goats are hard at work in Calgary for the next couple of weeks, mowing their way through weeds at Confluence Park off Beddington Trail in the northeast.
The goats are part of a pilot program to help control invasive weeds.
The animals will be managed by a professional shepherd, highly trained herding dogs and horses.
Jeannette Hall, owner of BAAH’D Plant Management & Recreation, said the crew is easy to take care of and is short of demands.
“They can tackle cliffs, remote areas,” she said. “They can work in heat and they can work right after the rain. You don’t have to wait for the grass to dry.”
The goats mean crews don’t have to use chemicals to control weeds. Research by The City of Calgary has also found this method is cheaper than spraying.
