New Calgary school named after late MLA

A school opening in Martindale next year will be named after the late Manmeet Bhullar.
The Calgary-Greenway MLA was the youngest member to be elected to Alberta legislature, before he was struck by a vehicle and killed last November on the QEII.
He had stopped to help a stranded motorist.
“Mr. Bhullar was a passionate advocate for Alberta children and families, particularly those living in northeast Calgary,” Pamela King, Trustee for Wards 5 & 10 said in a statement released by the Calgary Board of Education. “He believed in the value of public education and the importance of instilling optimism and courage in young people.”
Bhullar served in a number of roles during his political career, including Minister of Human Services, where he lifted a publication ban that allowed families of children in foster care to speak about their experiences.
Manmeet Singh Bhullar School will house 600 students.
