Hundreds of all faiths gather to mark the end of Ramadan in SE Calgary

It was a religious celebration Friday evening in the city’s southeast but one where all faiths were invited to attend.

Muslims, Jews, Christians and various other religions gathered at the Hussaini Association of Calgary to mark the end of Ramadan.

They also invited 660’s own Ian Campbell to take part in the festivities as part of their annual “Interfaith Eid Dinner.”

Among those in attendance, various NDP MLAs, the RCMP and representatives from different religions around the city.

“There’s a lot of confusion between the faiths and the groups, as long as we don’t meet to each other, share and discuss our thoughts, we can’t demolish the walls of confusion,” said Hussaini Association spokesperson Riyaz Khawaja. “Being a Muslim, being a Canadian, there’s no difference. As our Prime Minister already said the Islamic will is the same as the Canadian will is and what Islam teaches, it teaches us to be together under a diversity in Canada.”

“I think it’s important for the understanding of each other, talking to each other, a sense of community. And once you’re part of that community, embracing integration across all levels,” said Muhammad Abbas, Director of the All Grace Committee for the Islamic Association of the Norhtwest.

The theme was celebrating inclusiveness, togetherness and breaking down barriers.
