Airdrie RCMP have charged a 25-year-old University of Calgary Junior Dinos assistant basketball coach with sexual exploitation.
Authorities say Kristie Sheils, who lives in Calgary, is facing one count of sexual exploitation of a young person. The victim’s name isn’t being released. However, RCMP say the victim is a youth.
Sheils appeared in court on Tuesday and was released on a recognizance order to abide by certain release conditions. She is not allowed to have contact with the victim or have any contact with children under the age of 18, unless there is adult supervision.
Sheils is also not allowed to work or volunteer in any situation that would put her in a position of trust or authority to children under the age of 18.
According to the University of Calgary website, Sheils played as a guard for the Dinos women’s basketball team as recently as the 2015-16 season. That year, she received a second-team all-star award.
