Thousands descend on Saddledome for final Calgary Tragically Hip show

The line-ups were long but fans didn’t seem to mind ahead of Wednesday’s Tragically Hip concert.

Thousands made their way to the Saddledome for the second of Calgary’s two last ever shows.

To many, it was a rite of passage, whether this was the first time or the fortieth, they’re here for “Canadiana.”

Ken made the journey from Camrose sporting a loud and proud “Hip” jersey.

“This is it,” he said. “This man is going through, Gord is going through a lot to entertain us and he’s sufferin’ but it’s for us and for him.”

T-shirts quickly flew out of the tents as vendors couldn’t keep up with the overwhelming demand.

Dan had to have a piece of memorabilia to remember this moment in music history.

“One last time to see Gord and the band, right? It’s memories for sure and just trying not to shed a tear, ya know.”

“Once you see Gordie up front there performing, that’s what does it for you, definitely one of the all-time Canadian bands.”

Finding a “Hip” concert virgin proved to be difficult in this crowd, many following the iconic Canadian musicians along on this tour.

From Calgary the concert now moves east, next stop Winnipeg before they move onto Ontario and their final Kingston show.

Downie announced earlier this year he is dealing with a terminal diagnosis of brain cancer.
