Two Grizzly bears dead after relocation from Cochrane

A brother and sister Grizzly bear are dead after being taken out of the Cochrane area.
Earlier in June a brother and sister Grizzly got into some chicken coops and other food sources in residential areas.
Public Affairs Officer Brendan Cox with Alberta Justice and Solicitor General says when a bear keeps coming back to the same spot it can become very dangerous.
“Bears that are dependent on non-natural food sources in human areas can become a public safety risk because they start to frequent these areas more often and they could react poorly to anyone who gets in-between them and these food sources,” Cox said.
Cox adds that is what happened with the male bear and Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers had to make a tough decision.
“A bear that was severely habituated as that one the unfortunate option was to put it down and it’s a very difficult decision our officers have to make but their priority has to be public safety.”
Last month the sister bear died after being hit by a semi-truck on the highway between Canmore and Cochrane.
