Calgary police have identified the city’s 15th murder victim of the year.
27-year old Louie Angelo Mojica was pronounced dead at the scene on a residential street in Panorama, just after midnight Friday.
A witness reported hearing multiple gunshots in the 200 block of Panamount Way NW.
Major Crimes Inspector Don Coleman says Mojica, known to police, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was conducted Friday morning.
“It is believed this is a targeted attack, and investigators are currently interviewing several witnesses and canvassing for surveillance video in the area.”
The deceased was found in a white Dodge Charger police say was his girlfriend’s.
A dark coloured minivan, possibly a Dodge Caravan, and a dark coloured Mazda Three-type car, were seen fleeing the scene.
Police were called out to the 200 block of Panamount Way N.W. just after midnight on reports of gunshots and found a man in his 30s bloodied in the front seat of a Dodge Charger.
One man who lives nearby was shaken-up by the event.
“It’s usually a pretty quiet street,” he said. “Kids are running up and down the street. So it’s not something you’d expect here at all. It’s getting a little weird around here.”
He’s concerned as it’s the second murder case in the community in about a month, following the deaths of Sara Baillie and her young daughter Taliyah Marsman in July.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.
