Environment Canada confirms Edson tornado

Environment Canada meteorologists have now confirmed a tornado did in fact touch down near Edson, Alta., on Sunday night.

Early Monday morning, meteorologists told 660 NEWS it was likely a twister, but they’d need more information before confirming.

A short while later, they confirmed the twister touched down about 30 kilometres northeast of Edson, and is listed as the weakest on the scale and EF 0. As for damage, there was only some tree debris spotted on the ground.

The meteorologists add, tornadoes do not usually form this late in August.
