Operation Nanook 2016 kicks off in Yukon and Nunavut

Hundreds of military personnel are in the Yukon and Nunavut Monday for a joint emergency exercise.
Operation Nanook 2016 runs until September 2, and will include both a mock earthquake and a scenario involving arctic security.
Lieutenant Navy Rob Davenport says troops will also get valuable experience travelling across the tundra.
“It’s a major logistic challenge — an operational support challenge — to move all of the people, all of the materials and supplies that we need, and make sure that we have just the basic necessities: fuel, food, water, in order to support an additional 300, 500 troops in a community in the arctic,” he explained.
The exercise will include patrols, search and rescue training and simulated combat.
